Capt. Dorrance Ivan Anderson

 

 

 

Dorrance Ivan (Andy) Anderson was born Jan. 30, 1917 to Orville Jay and Clara Isabella Havnen Anderson. He died May 14, 2017 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Dr. Anderson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kankakee (AO-39) in the South Pacific. He was accepted to U.S. Navy Flight Training in 1943, earning his Wings, and flying PB4Y2s (the Catalina Flying Boat). Of the 27 officers in his flight school class designated aviators, only 5 survived the war. Andy continued in the U.S. Navy reserves and retired proudly as a Captain in 1977.
