Pvt. Myron Leroy Alvestad

 

 

 

Myron Leroy Alvestad was born Aug. 8, 1918 to Henry and Anna Wicks Alvestad. He died Nov. 1, 1979 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Stratford, IA.

Pvt. Alvestad served with the U.S. Army in World War II with Co. A, 316th Medical Battalion, 91st Division.

Myron Alvestad, 61, a resident of the Stratford community, died last evening at his home in Stratford following an extensive illness.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Stratford Lutheran church with the Rev. Calvin Rossman officiating and with burial in the Oakwood cemetery north of Stratford.

Military graveside services will be held by the Sonksen Post of the American Legion.

Friends may call at the Hanson, Star, Welin funeral home Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. to noon, at which time the casket will be taken to the church.

He is survived by his wife; his father, Henry Alvestad, Stratford; two sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Janice) Berry of Stratford and Mrs. John (June Ann) Furman of Nevada, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

He was a member of the Stratford Lutheran church.

Mr. Alvestad was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
