Hawarden, Ia.—Cadet August H. Ykema, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ykema, has completed his basic flying training course at Marana Army airfield, Tucson, Ariz. He will be sent to an advanced flying school to complete cadet training.

August H. Ykema was born Dec. 31, 1915 to Henry and Jennie Hoekstra Ykema. He died Apr. 27, 2003 and is buried in Allendale Township Cemetery, Allendale, MI.
1st Lt. Ykema served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 20th Reconnaissance Squadron.
