Lt. Frank G. Wunder Jr.

 

 

 

In All Wars

Mrs. Harriett Moody Borlund, 79, of 406 First street southwest [Mason City], has had a blood relative in all but one of the wars of the United States starting with the revolution. Her maternal great-grandfather was Jeremiah Allen, cousin of Ethan Allen. In the war of 1812 her paternal great-grandfather, Joel Bixby, was in the armed forces. In the Civil war her father, Ephraim C. Moody was with the Union army. Her son, Claude A. Borland, was a first lieutenant in the Rainbow division in World War I. Now her great-grandson, Frank G. Wunder, Jr. of Minden, is a cadet with the army air corps.

Frank Grant Wunder was born May 14, 1921 to Frank August and Eola Gertrude Borland Wunder. He died Oct. 13, 1943 and has a cenotaph in Graceland Cemetery, Avoca, IA and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

1st Lt. Wunder served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 9th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group and was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
