Lt. John W. Wood

Second Lieut. John W. Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Wood, 5311 Segar Avenue has been awarded the air medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flights, according to an announcement from Maj Gen. Howard C. Davidson, commanding general at an advanced Tenth Air Force base in India where Lieut. Wood is stationed. During his six months of overseas service Lieut. Wood has completed 29 combat missions and 70 combat hours. He is a graduate of East High School, where he played on the football and basketball teams.

Lt. John Wood, First Reported Missing Back with Squadron 

First Lt. John W. Wood, reported missing in action December 9 over China, is safe, a telegram from the War Department has informed his mother, Mrs. A. L. Wood, 3815 Third avenue.  A pilot on a P-51, Lt. Wood has been returned to his squadron, the message stated.
