Lt. Robert Wolfe Killed on Runway

Ernest Wolfe, 1610 Williston avenue, returned yesterday from Rock Island, Ill., where he attended full military funeral services for his son, Lt. Robert J. Wolfe, 20, killed in a runway accident at Muroc, Cal., air field last Sunday. No details were given here.

He entered service in the army air forces June, 15, 1943, and received his training at Sheppard field, Tex.; Latrobe, Pa.; Santa Ana, Cal.; Las Vegas and Roswell field, N. M.

Lieutenant Wolfe was born in Chicago Apr. 22, 1924, the son of Ernest L. and Jeannette Hill Wolfe, and spent his early boyhood in that city, later moving to Rock Island. He was graduated from Rock Island high school, and was a freshman student at St. Ambrose college, Dubuque, Ia., before entering service. He was an outstanding basketball and football player. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Rock Island.

Besides his father, he is survived by his mother, 1217 Ninth avenue, Rock Island, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hill, Rock Island.
