Distinguished Service Cross Given Parents of Hero From Iowa

IOWA CITY, (AP) – In the absence of Brig. Gen E. L. Eubank, who was Greley B. William’s commanding officer in the Philippines, Col. Homer H. Slaughter of the University of Iowa military department presented the distinguished service cross to the Johnson county farm boy’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Williams.

The award was for “courageous action” during a Japanese bombing of Clark field in the Philippines on Dec. 8, 1941.

Young Williams, a gunner with the air force, was killed in the action, and was buried at Fort Statsenburg in the Philippines.
