SGT. JOHN E. WELLS KILLED
Central High Graduate Was in Action in France

S. Sgt. John E. Wells, formerly reported missing in action, has now been reported killed in action on April 30, 1944, in France, according to word from the War Department.

Sgt. Wells, who is the son of Mrs. Bessie Wells, formerly of 4233 Van Buren street, now living in Storm Lake, was a radio gunner on a B-17.  He entered the service in January 1943, and took gunnery training at Las Vegas, Nev.  He was graduated from radio school in Sioux Falls and then was sent to Pyote, Tex., and from there overseas in March 1944.

He was a graduate of Central high school and a member of Wesley Methodist church in Leeds.

Survivors include his mother and a sister Dorothy, who is now going to college at Evanston, Ill.

John Edward Wells was born Oct. 15, 1922 to J. E. and Bessie Rubin Wells. He died Apr. 30, 1944 and is buried in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, MO.
