Returning Service Men Arrive

More northeastern Iowa service men are reported aboard ships that have docked during the last few days. Seven veterans from the Pacific theater were reported aboard the Admiral Rodman that docked in San Francisco Oct. 3.

Included:

La Porte City – Staff Sgt. Merle D. Weisert.

LaPorte City--Cpl. Virgil Weisert and Staff Sgt. Merle Weisert, who have not seen each other for three years, will be discharged the coming week.  They were inducted at the same time, took their training together but were later separated.  Merle was sent to Hawaii while Virgil went to Panama.  Merle has been in the Pacific nearly three years with army ordnance.  Virgil has been 34 months in Panama canal area.  They are the sons of Henry Weisert, Sr.

Merle D. Weisert was born Nov. 27, 1911 to Henry and Ava Dixon Weisert. He died Jan. 22, 1994 in San Bernardino, CA.

Sgt. Weisert served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
