Tech. 4th Gr. Virgil Weibel, radio operator, is visiting here on a 30-day convalescent leave at the home of his wife, 516 Pine street, and his sisters, Mrs. K. N. McKimber and Mrs. L. E. Smith, 308 Iowa street. T-4 Weibel, who went overseas in September, 1943, has been stationed on the Hawaiian islands, Sarmi and Sansapor in New Guinea, and on Luzon and Leyte in the Philippines. He entered service with the Iowa national guard, later being discharged through the law releasing 20-year-olds in November, 1941. He was recalled the following January and assigned to an infantry unit.

Dies in Camp

Was Awaiting Discharge from Army Soon.

The body of Tech. 4th Gr. Virgil H. Weibel, 39, formerly of 306 Iowa street, who died unexpectedly of a coronary heart disease on Wednesday in the U. S. General hospital, Camp Carson, Colo., arrived at Kearns Garden chapel Friday morning.

He was born Mar. 8, 1906, at Fairbank, Ia., the son of Emil and Carrie Weibel, and graduated from high school there before coming to Waterloo in 1934.

Before entering service with the Iowa national guard in 1940, he was employed at the Rath Packing Co. and as supervisor for Gates playground.

Served on Leyte.

He went overseas in September, 1943, and was stationed on the Hawaiian islands, Sarmi and Sansapor in New Guinea, and on Luzon and Leyte in the Philippines.

He was home on furlough in June this year, reported to Camp Carson hospital for treatment of tropical ulcers, and had expected to be discharged from the army in two weeks.

On Oct. 12, 1929, he married Ethel Carnahan of Waterloo, and they were divorced in 1935. While stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., in1942 he married Gorda Hyde, of Cedar Falls, and they were divorced Aug. 21, 1945.

Parents Dead.

Surviving is one son by his first marriage, Dean, 12, of 222 Lafayette street; one brother, Owen Weibel, St. Paul, Minn.; four sisters, Mrs. L. C. Smith and Mrs. Keith McKimber, 306 Iowa street, Mrs. Lee Bramblette, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Earl Judas, Maynard, Ia.

His mother preceded him in death Aug. 12, 1944, and his father on Mar. 10, 1940.

Funeral services for Tech 4th Gr. Virgil H. Weibel, formerly of 306 Iowa street, who died of a heart disease Wednesday in the U. S. general hospital at Camp Carson, Colo., will be at 1:30 p. m. Monday in Kearns Garden chapel. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
