Pvt. Clifford S. Vanderpool

 

Killed in Action

Pvt. Clifford S. Vanderpool, 34, previously reported missing in action is now listed as killed in action [Jan. 7], according to war department notification received by his wife Mrs. Emma D. Vanderpool, 2816 North Twenty-sixth street.

He formerly had been employed by the Reed Ice Cream Company, before entering the service in April, 1944, and had been overseas with the Tank Corps since October, 1944l

Survivors include his wife; parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Vanderpool, of Bentley, Ia.; 10 sisters, Mrs. Genevea Pickins of Omaha, Mrs. Lucille Ruckman of Underwood, Ia., Mrs. Gladys May of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Flossie Hansen of Dunlap, Ia., Miss. Bessie Delores Vanderpool of Bentley, Mrs. Lois Hansen, Mrs. Agnes Mass, Mrs. Madge Mass, Mrs. Darlene Fox, and Mrs. Barbara Scott, all of Lake Manawa, Ia.

Clifford Sidney “Shark” Vanderpool was born Oct. 31, 1911 to Clarence E. and Pearl E. Moore Vanderpool. He died Jan. 7, 1945 and is buried in Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, Hamm, Luxembourg. He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Grand Faily, France. 

Pvt. Vanderpool served with the U.S. Army 15th Tank Battalion, 6th Armored Division. He was KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
