PURPLE HEART FOR SGT. GLENN UMBAUGH

Mrs. Pearl Umbaugh of Scranton received the purple heart last week from her son, Sgt. Glenn Umbaugh, who was wounded March 15 in action in Germany. Sergeant Umbaugh is now hospitalized somewhere in England and is improving satisfactorily.

Mrs. Umbaugh has learned that her son was wounded at 9 o’clock in the morning of March 15, and was taken to a basement, where he had to remain until dark. That night he received a shrapnel wound in his heel. He was moved to Luxembourg, where he was operated on for the removal of the shrapnel, although it was later before the wound was treated and seven stitches taken to close it. He then was moved to France and from there, to England.
