Notes About N.E. Iowans in the Service

WEST UNION—Staff Sgt. Robert L. Traeger, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Traeger, has been given an honorable discharge from the Army after 25 months of service that included a nine-month tour of duty in the European theater.  He served as aerial gunner on a B-24 Liberator with the Eighth air force.  Sergeant Traeger wears the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf clusters, European theater of Operations ribbon with three campaign stars, Presidential Unite citation badge, and the Good Conduct ribbon.

Robert Levi Traeger, Sr. was born Aug. 7, 1923 to Edgar Alwin and Bessie Book Traeger. He died Sept. 17, 2022 and is buried in West Union Cemetery, West Union, IA.
