FIRST LISTED MISSING; DIES
Seaman Robert Terpstra Killed in Philippines


Robert Dean Terpstra, seaman first class, 19, formerly reported missing, was killed in action while serving aboard the U. S. S. Hoel when that destroyer was lost in the second battle of the Philippines October 25, 1944. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Terpstra, 1112 Whitcher avenue, received the notification Monday from the Secretary of the Navy.

Born in Sioux City, August 26, 1925, Seaman Terpstra attended Central high school where he was active in sports, especially basketball. He enlisted in the Navy February 1, 1943, and before that was employed by Council Oak stores. He was a member of the Riverside Methodist church.

Surviving besides his parents are a sister, Elaine, and his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Anderson, both living with his parents; an aunt, Mrs. Johanna Toal of Sioux City.
