DIES ON LUZON

Castana, Ia.—Special:  Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Stratton of Castana, have been notified by the War Department that their son, Charles L. Stratton Jr, was killed in action August 4, 1945, in northern Luzon.

Stratton was born November 22, 1925, at Smithland.  He attended school at Smithland, Kingsley, Cherokee, East junior and East high school in Sioux City and was graduated in June, 1943, from Dunsmuir, Cal., high school.  He was employed for a year by the Southern Pacific company of Dunsmuir and entered service on August 3, 1944.  He received his training at Camp Hood, Tex.  After going overseas in January, 1945, he was assigned to Company F, 127th infantry of the 32d Red Arrow division, and was stationed in Luzon.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, David and Michael of Castana, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Gambs of Smithland.

Charles L. Stratton, Jr. died Aug. 4, 1945 and is buried in Little Sioux Township Cemetery, Smithland, IA.
