Our Neighbors in the Service

Ocheyedan, Ia.—Shown here is Sgt. Dale N. Stillwell, 19-year-old Fortress gunner from Ocheyedan, who has been seriously wounded in England. This news was received by his wife, Mrs. Joyce Stillwell of Ocheyedan, in a letter from his chaplain in England.  Sgt. Stillwell was recently awarded an oak leaf cluster for “meritorious achievement” during Eighth air force bombing attacks on vital German industries and military installations.  The son of Mr. and Mrs. Archie T. Stillwell of Ocheyedan, Sgt. Stillwell before entering the army air forces in July, 1943, was a student at the Ocheyedan high school.  He received his gunner’s wings in January, 1944, at Las Vegas, Nev.
