Kenneth D. Speer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton E. Speer, 4005 Floyd Avenue; Lloyd E. Sease, son of Carl Sease, 406 S. Helen Street and John Melvin Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Foster Thompson, 3259 Nebraska Street, have arrived at Carroll College, Waukesha, Wis., for basic army air force instruction.

Lieut. Kenneth D. Speer, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Speer, 4005 Floyd avenue, has completed training as a B-17 pilot and reported to the army air force station at Lincoln, Neb., where his crew will be formed for the final stage of combat training before going overseas.
Richard D. Speer, seaman second class, has arrived safely in New Guinea, according to a message received by the family last week.

Kenneth D. Speer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton E. Speer, 4005 Floyd Avenue, has been promoted from second to first lieutenant, it has been announced by Eighth air force headquarters, England. Lt. Speer is serving as a Flying Fortress pilot in the 401st bombardment group, and has been awarded an oak leaf cluster to his air medal for “exceptional meritorious achievement while participating in a number of combat missions over Germany and Nazi-held territory.” His wife lives at 4623 Tyler Street.
