EX-SIOUX CITY MAN IS KILLED
Lieut. Robert E. Spain Is War Casualty in China Action

First Lieut. Robert Elroy Spain, 27, a former Sioux Cityan, was killed in action in China October 22, it was learned here recently by Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Gensichen, 817 Ninth street, with whom the young man made his home for more than two years.

The young officer enlisted here February 3, 1942, and received his training at Santa Ana and Santa Maria, Cal., and Pratt, Kan.

He was graduated as a bombardier and navigator.  He went overseas in March of 1944 and was stationed in India until recently when he was transferred to a base in China.  He had taken part in numerous missions over Japan.

Before entering the service he was employed by the Katz Drug company.  Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Spain and four sisters, all of Butler, Mo.
