Lt. Leo W. Smith, son of Pershal Smith of Mapleton, is now an instructor in instrument flying at Pampa Air Field, Pampa, Texas.

Leo W. Smith was born Aug. 17, 1917 to Pershal Ewing and Anna B. Weaver Smith. He died Dec. 11, 1999 and is buried in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, IA.
Lt. Col. Smith served with the U.S. Air Force in World War II.
