William Sinkey

NEWS OF OUR MEN and WOMEN IN UNIFORM

William Sinkey of Ireton, who is in the Navy at the present time stationed at Sasebo, north of Japan. He has been in the Navy for three years and has been on the “Springfield” which at one time was in actual combat for 70 days without seeing land. Many of the boys on ship would gladly have given six months of pay for a few hours of rest at that time. When asked about this experience, Billy said, “So many sailors have given their life out here during the war—they are the ones who should get the credit. It always make me angry when I read about those big gold braids taking all of the glory and credit. Little is said about the ones that gave their life that the great Victory was make possible.”
We are sure that Billy gives the credit to others, he himself has made his three years of service in the Navy as worthwhile as possible.
