Lt. Mark Sherman

 

Sioux City Native, Lt. M. Sherman, Killed in China

First Lt. Mark Sherman, 22, former Sioux Cityan and son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Sherman of Omaha, was killed in action January 10 over China. He was the grandson of Mrs. E. E. Sherman of Elk Point, S.D., and a nephew of Ray Naughton, John Naughton and Owen Naughton of Sioux City.

Lt. Sherman was born June 17, 1922, in Sioux City and lived in Elk Point and Sioux City. He enlisted in July, 1941, and received his wings at Jacksonville, Fla., in July, 1942. He was stationed at Middletown, Pa., as a test pilot for two years, and went overseas in August, 1944.

He was pilot of a C-47 over China and India, had completed almost 100 missions and had received the air medal.
