Whiting Soldier in Salween Area

Chinese Combat Command, United States Army—American liaison teams attached to armies of the Chinese expeditionary force, played an important role in the success of the Salween campaign, which made possible opening of the Stilwell (Ledo-Burma) road.  Here Technician Fourth Grade Steven N. Seward, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Seward of Whiting, Ia., sends a message on his field radio in the Salween combat area while a Chinese soldier watches.

Steven Nelson Seward was born May 19, 1922 to Jesse and Frances Mae Delashmutt Seward. He died Aug. 27, 2014 and is buried in Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, IA.
