Kenneth Rost of Hartley Officially Declared Dead

Hartley, Ia.—Special: S. Sgt. Kenneth Rost, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Rose, of Hartley, has been declared officially dead by the War Department.

Sgt. Rost had been missing in action since March 1, 1945, when his plane was shot down over Austria. He was a gunner on the plane.

He was graduated from Hartley high school and enlisted in April, 1943. He was on his 49th mission when shot down.

Kenneth Clyde Rost was born July 18, 1923 to Clyde William and Mabel Marie Welsh Rost. He died Mar. 1, 1945 and is buried in Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint Avold, France. 

Sgt. Rost served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 716th Bomber Squadron, 449th Bomber Group, Heavy and was KIA and awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart.
