MASS TO BE HELD THURSDAY
for CPL. WILLIAM QUINONES
Was Killed in Action in Germany on Dec. 27;
Overseas Since August
Mass will be said at St. Joseph's Catholic church Thursday morning at 9:00 for Cpl. William Quinones who was killed in action in Germany on Dec. 27. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Quinones Sr., 820 Van Buren S. E.
Cpl. Quinones, recently promoted to the rank of corporal, was born in Mason City Sept. 12, 1923. He attended St. Joseph's school and was graduated from the Mason City high school in June, 1943, entering the service that same month. He received his basic training at Camp Roberts, Cal., and was later stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Before going overseas in August, 1944, he spent a furlough here with his parents. He was serving with the artillery.
Surviving besides his parents are 5 sisters and 4 brothers, all at home. They are Juanita, Beeda, Amelia, Gloria, Mary, Patrick, Lee, Raymond and John, Jr.

MEMORIAL HELD FOR QUINONES
Requiem High Mass Said for Soldier
Requiem high mass was held for Cpl. William Quinones, who was killed in action in Germany on Dec. 27, at St. Joseph's Catholic church Thursday morning with Father P. J. Behan, pastor of the church, celebrant.
"God may ask us to make tremendous sacrifices . . . to give our lives for a cause and a principle as did William, whom we honor today," said Father Behan. "He left all but did not flinch from duty. He realized that as an American citizen he was called perhaps to make an eternal sacrifice. But may we accept his sacrifice in the spirit of Jesus who died a martyr on the cross for us - in the spirit of all humility. . . In spite of our misdeeds and the misdeeds of the world, there is still a God who watches over us, for God is a God of love. No matter how we drift, He is the sure road to victory, a final and lasting victory, a just and eternal victory."
Cpl. Quinones is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Quinones, Sr., 820 Van Buren S. E., 5 sisters and 4 brothers, all at home.

DUTCH GIRL ADOPTS GRAVE of
MASON CITY CASUALTY
Tends Burial Place of William Quinones at Tegelen, Holland
Mrs. Victoria Quinones, whose son William was killed in action in Germany, has received a letter from Tony Remmens, Tegelen, Holland, in which the writer says that she is the person who has adopted William's grave in the Margraten cemetery there.
The picture here shows the Margraten cemetery with William's grave in the foreground where the flowers are being placed by Miss Remmens, who write in part (in English):
"I suppose you will be surprised to get a letter from an unknown Dutchman, but perhaps it will please you to bear from the one who adopted the grave of William Quinones.
"I'm sorry that it isn't much that we can do for the American heroes who rest at Martgraten and their relatives. But what I can do I will do with a great thankfulness to ones who have given their lives, also for the freedom of our country.
"It must be hard for you that you aren't able to see his grave. I go as often as possible and bring flowers to thank him for all he had done for our liberation. The photos I am enclosing were taken one week ago when I was there."
