KILLED IN ACTION

Sgt. Merle W. Oltmans, 23, has been reported killed in action May 23 on Luzon, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harty (sic) Oltmans, Route 3. Entering the service in November, 1942, he arrived overseas nearly two and a half years ago. Besides his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Coxswain Marvin Oltmans who is stationed at Moffit Field, Calif., Wilbert Oltmans of Council Bluffs, and Walter at home; and his grandparents, Mrs. John Onnen of Council Bluffs and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Harms, also of Council Bluffs.

Obituaries
Sgt. Merle Oltmans

The body of Sgt. Merle W. Oltmans, 23, killed-in-action May 22, 1945 on Luzon in the Philippine Islands, will arrive in Council Bluffs Saturday morning and be taken to Woodring funeral home.

Sgt. Oltmans is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hardy R. Oltmans, route 3 Council Bluffs.

The Rev. Eugene Schneider of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church will officiate at services Saturday at 2 p. m., at Woodring’s chapel. Rainbow post No. 2 of the American Legion will conduct military rites at Memorial park cemetery.
