In a letter to his family in Hillsboro, Frank Arnold Niece, S 1/c, stated that his ship had taken part in the Iwo Jima invasion. He had experience many new things and had shot at a Jap plane. He missed the plane but hoped he would have better luck next time.

Franklin Arnold “Frank” Niece was born Feb. 3, 1918 to Elmer and Lillian Leach Niece. He died June 13, 1989 and is buried in Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, IA.
