Two Japs and a Promotion

“I got two Japs and a promotion to private first class as my eighteenth birthday present and am I proud,” said Pfc. Rowland A. Meyer in his most recent message to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Slawson, 609 Franklin avenue.

Pfc. Meyer has been overseas seven months. He has been transferred from Bouganville island to a base hospital in New Caledonia for a rest cure to shattered nerves suffered on Bouganville.

Pfc. Meyer enlisted in the marine radio section shortly before being graduated from Abraham Lincoln high school one year ago.
