CHELSEA AND ELDORA SOLDIERS WOUNDED

Washington, D.C.—(INS)—The War Department announced Friday the names of 387 United States soldiers wounded in action. This includes casualties in the Asiatic, Central Pacific, European, Mediterranean, South Pacific, and southwest Pacific areas.
The list included:
Central Pacific area:
Iowa—Pfc. Ludvik J. Mayer; father, Joseph W. Mayer, Chelesa, IA;
Pfc. Edward J. Messer; mother, Mrs. Anna M. Messer, Eldora, IA.

Edward John “Ed" Messer was born June 23, 1919 to Earl Peter and Annamae Allison Messer. He died June 25, 2019 and is buried in Madison Township Cemetery, Madison Township, Hancock County, IA.

Pvt. Messer served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific and was awarded a Purple Heart.
