EDITORIAL ~ JERRY MADDEN

Sometimes thing seem to hit you harder than at other times.

This week was one of the hard hitting times when the announcement that Jerry Madden had been killed in action somewhere in Italy.

The earliest elective city office to get into the fight, it didn’t seem right that he should have been taken so early in his career. He had so much to live for. He already had achieved his place in the sun and appeared bound to make himself felt, not only in the political but in the civic circles of Council Bluffs.

He had no enemies and many friends. His death leaves a vacancy in the ranks of city officials which will be hard to fill, and a place in civic life which will prove to be a void for many years.
