FLIER MISSING

Mapleton, Ia.—Special:
S. Sgt. Raymond J. “Razor” Koenigs, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Koenigs of Mapleton, was reported missing in action over Austria since February 7, according to a telegram received by his parents from the War Department.

Sgt. Koenigs was an engineer-gunner of a Flying Fortress and was a member of Col. Paul L. Barton’s target busting group operating from Italian bases.

He graduated from Mapleton high school and enlisted in the Naval air corps in June, 1942. He later transferred to the Army air corps and won his wings at Las Vegas, Nev., in April, 1944. He went overseas about six months ago.

He has two brothers in service, T. Sgt. Paul Koenigs with the infantry in Belgium, and Ensign Leonard Koenigs with the Navy in the southwest Pacific.

Paul C. Koenigs was born Sept. 17, 1921 to John T. and Josephine Gaul Koenigs. He died Feb. 8, 2008 and is buried in Saint Marys Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton, IA.
