Sgt. Lyman Knudsen

 

 

Notes About N.E. Iowans in the Service

DIKE—Sgt. Lyman Knudsen has received his honorable discharge and is now here with his wife.  He was inducted into the service exactly three years ago to the day he was discharged, Oct. 4, 1942 and spent 22 months overseas in England, France, Belgium, Germany, serving with the Ninth air force as radio man.  Knudsen has six battle stars, a unit citation with an Oak Leaf cluster.  Battle stars are for Normandy, air offense over Europe, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and central Germany.

Lyman Milton Knudsen was born June 26, 1911 to Hans J. and Margaret Walter Knudsen. He died Oct. 18, 2008 and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, IA.
