Instruments of Iowa Physician, Now in Solomons, Go to War

DES MOINES, (AP) – Some of the instruments Dr. John J. Keith of Marion, Iowa, used in his profession before the war – he is now on Guadalcanal island – are following him into battle.

The state health department received this letter from Mrs. Keith:

“I am late in responding to your request for old medical instruments, but I had to wait until I could get expert advice on which of Dr. Keith’s were old and obsolete. I hope this contribution will help a little.

“Dr. Keith is with a medical detachment on Guadalcanal Island and I know he would approve strongly of this contribution if he knew about it.”

The department is acting as a clearing house for old surgical and medical instruments which are being rebuilt and sent into the war zones. The drive for instruments is being sponsored by the state medical and dental societies.
