DOCTOR REACHES CAMP

Dr. David Kaplan, Terrace  apartments, left here Sunday and reported for duty at Camp Grueber, Oklahoma, this morning.  He will serve as a first lieutenant in the medical corps.

Lieut. David Kaplan, who has been stationed at Camp Graber, Oklahoma, has been transferred to the provincial hospital training center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

IN UNIFORM

Capt. David Kaplan, a former Sioux City physician now serving in France, has been awarded the bronze star for heroic achievement in combat while serving in the Italian campaign with the medical corps, 143d infantry regiment. The citation states that Capt. Kaplan in combat on January 20 and 21 as a surgeon with the Third battalion fearlessly exposed himself to enemy fire to treat the wounded brought to his aid station. Capt. Kaplan, a graduate of the University of Iowa medical school, practiced here four years before entering the armed forces. He entered the service about two and one-half years ago and has been overseas for nearly two years. He is the son of Mrs. Rose Kaplan, 2116 McDonald street. His wife and daughter, Paula Jeanne, live at 2621 Jones street.

David D. Kaplan was born Sept. 15, 15, 1913 to Paul and Rose Raskin Kaplan. He died Jan. 21, 1997 and is buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
