Second Lt. Francis W. Johnson, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Johnson, 211 East First street, was graduated this week as a B-24 bomber pilot at Ft. Worth, Tex., army air field, a unit of the central flying training command. Lieutenant Johnson received previous flight training at Cimarron field, Okla., Garden City, Kan., and received his commission in June this year at Brooks field, Tex.

Johnson Is Crash Victim
Second Lt. Francis W. Johnson, 23, army pilot trainee on a B-24 bomber at Coatham field, Savannah, Ga., was killed at 9:20 p. m. Friday in a plane crash near Hardeeville, S. C., according to word received here last night by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Johnson, 211 East First street.
No circumstances of the accident were revealed in the message from officers.
A graduate in 1939 of Our Lady of Victory academy, Lieutenant Johnson attended Iowa State Teachers college. Called to active duty in April, 1943, he trained at Carbondale, Ill, San Antonio, Tex., Garden City, Kan., and Savannah.
Born Aug. 20, 1921, in Ft. Dodge, Ia., he moved here with his parents in 1934. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church.
Surviving are his parents and two brothers, Robert, 15, and James, 9, both at home.
The body will be brought here to the O’Keefe & Towne funeral home.
