Enoch Hinrichs Is Missing in Action

VENTURA – Bill Hinrichs received word Sunday from the war department that his brother, Enoch, is missing in action in North Africa.

Former Ventura Man Officially Declared
to Have Died in Service

Enoch Hinrichs, who has been listed as a prisoner of war from this county, was officially declared to have died on Feb. 15, 1944, according to a presumptive finding of death by the war department following the lapse of a year, since he was first reported missing, it was stated by his brother, Bill Hindrich (sic), now living at Clear Lake.

Hinrichs entered the service from Victor in Iowa county. The family formerly lived at Ventura.

Enoch Carl Hinrichs was born Apr. 15, 1918 to William Henry and Dora Schultz Hinrichs. He died Feb. 15, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, North Africa American Cemetery, Tunis, Tunisia.

Cpl. Hinrichs served in World War II with the U.S. Army 1st Armored Regiment, 1st Armored Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
