Pfc. Max O. Henderson

 

Oakland Soldier in on Fall of Krefeld

Pfc. Max Henderson of Oakland is a member of the 102nd infantry division which has taken Krefeld, Germany, and Saturday was in one of the platoons out cleaning up small enemy pockets, according to an Associated Press dispatch from that city Saturday night. The 102nd met bitter resistance in taking the town, and many American doughboys were killed, the dispatch said. The 102nd has spent 130 consecutive days in combat.

Learn Son is Reported Missing

Mr. and Mrs. Claude M. Henderson received a telegram reporting their son, Pfc. Max Henderson, is missing in action since April 18 somewhere in Germany. A letter was received from him by his parents dated April 15. Pfc. Henderson had been in combat action for about five months as a platoon runner with the 102nd infantry division of the 9th army.

Oakland Youth Killed in Action

OAKLAND – Pfc. Max O. Henderson, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude M. Henderson of Oakland, was killed in action in Germany on April 18, according to a war department message received by his parents Tuesday. Henderson was a platoon runner with 406th regiment of 102nd division, 9th army.

He had been overseas since August, 1944.

Surviving are his parents and two sisters, Kathleen Fay, a student at the University of Nebraska, and Frances Ann, Oakland high senior.
