Killed in Action

Killed in action off Okinawa was Chief Radioman H. Folmer Hansen, jr., 20, husband of Margery Gretzer Hansen, formerly of Council Bluffs.

Hans Folmer Hansen, Jr. was born July 25, 1919 to Hans F. (Sr.) and Kristina Rattenberg Hansen. He died Apr. 28, 1945. He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, MO. 

Chief Petty Officer Hansen served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Pinkney (APH-2). He was MIA/KIA when the Pinkney was hit by a Japanese kamikaze off Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
