NEWS FROM OUR BOYS
AT GREAT LAKES


Four Sioux City men have reported to the naval training station at Great Lakes, ILL., to recruit training. The men are Vernon D. Gill, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Gill, 3100 Euclid avenue; Howard W. Tolles, husband of Mrs. Rachel M. Tolles, 1725 S. Newton street; Franklin J. Melheim, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Melheim, 705 S. Paxton street; and William R. Dye, 34, husband of Mrs. Thelma Dye, 1916 ½ W. Third street.

MEN IN SERVICE.

Vernon D. Gill, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Gill, 3100 Euclid avenue and Wesley J. Hall, son of Mrs. Lillian Oakes, 1404 Hildahl avenue, both stationed at Chicago, have been graduated from the special naval training school and awarded petty officer ratings. Gill is now an aviation machinist’s mate and Hall an aviation metalsmith.

Aviation Machinist Mate Third Class Vernon D. Gill, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Gill, 3100 Euclid Avenue, recently graduated from the naval training station at the navy pier, Chicago, Illinois.

Vernon Davis Gill was born Mar. 7, 1921 to William B. and Merle Sater Gill. He died Apr. 16, 2007 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
