MEN AND WOMEN IN SERVICE  

Corporal Bert Garrison, an instructor in an engineering branch of the army, has arrived safely in England, his grandmother, Mrs. Jane Blue, 2102 Rebecca street, was informed.  He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. King Garrison, former Sioux Cityans.  His wife, Edna, and daughter, are residing in Lester, Ia.

Sgt. Bert Garrison Given Purple Heart

Sgt. Bert Garrison, son of Mr. and Mrs. King Garrison, former Sioux Cityans now living in Urbana, Mo., has been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received about February 1, while serving with the Third army engineers in the European theater.

Sgt. Garrison, veteran of battles in Normandy, France and Germany, attended Central high school and was employed by the Great Northern railroad in Sioux City before entering the service about two and one-half years ago. He has been overseas more than a year.

His grandmother, Mrs. Jane Blue, lives at 2102 Rebecca street. His wife and baby reside with her parents at Lester, Ia.
