HOUGH REPORTED MISSING IN ACTION

Cpl. Robert L. Hough has been reported missing in action in France according to a war department announcement received by his sister, Mrs. Charles D. Shepard, 1104 Sixth avenue Tuesday.

On Saturday, Aug. 19 his mother, Mrs. Fred Jewel of Crescent, received a letter dated Aug. 2 in which Cpl. Hough enclosed a citation revealing that he had been awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in Normandy.

The citation also revealed that the same award had been given to Capt. Kennard W. Gardiner for services in Normandy at the same time. Capt. Gardiner is also from Council Bluffs.

Kennard Wilbur Gardiner was born July 7, 1907 to Everett and Bertha Griffith Gardiner. He died Apr. 17, 2002 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Council Bluffs, IA.

Capt. Gardiner served in World War II with the U.S. Army 113th Cavalry Regiment, 125th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron and the 215th Replenishment Company.
