Chester Gage Missing on Okinawa

Pvt. Chester Gage, 19, has been reported missing in action since May 16, on Okinawa, his mother, Mrs. Ella Amos, 311 West Eighth street, was informed Wednesday by a war department telegram.

His last letter was dated May 11.

Overseas since Feb. 20, 1945, he had been serving with an infantry unit. He entered service July 20, 1944.

His fiancée, Miss Opal Powell, resided at 915 West First street.

Chester Gage Declared Dead

Pvt. Chester Gage, 18, who has been reported missing in action since May 16, 1945, has been killed in action on Okinawa, his mother, Mrs. Ella Amos and sister, Helen, both of 311 West English street, were informed Thursday by a letter from the war department.

Private Gage was inducted into the army in July, 1944, and received his basic training at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. Overseas since March, 1945, he had been a member of the 307th infantry division.

A twin brother, Pfc. Charles Gage, is now a member of the occupational forces in Japan.

Born Mar. 21, 1927, at Fayette, Ia., he was the son of Ralph and Ella Gage. He attended Fayette, Ia., schools and came to Waterloo in 1943. He was employed by the Rath Packing Co. prior to his entry into the service.

His father died in January, 1945, at Fayette, Ia.

Surviving besides his mother, a sister and the twin brother, is a brother, Richard, Maynard, Ia.

Gage Body to Fayette

The body of Pvt. Chester Gage, son of Mrs. Ella Amos, 315 Rock Island avenue, Wednesday will be returned to Fayette, Ia., his birthplace, for reburial.

Private Gage was killed in action on Okinawa while serving with an infantry unit there. He had been reported missing since May 16, 1945, and was officially declared dead Mar. 15, 1946.

Chester Gage was born Mar. 21, 1927, at Fayette, Ia., the son of Ralph and Ella Gage, and lived there until 1943, when he came to Waterloo. He entered the army from here in July, 1944, and went overseas in March, 1945.

Surviving are his mother, a sister, Helen, at home; a twin brother, Charles, Route 4; another brother, Richard, of Oelwein; and a half-brother, Arthur, at home.

His father preceded him in death.

The body will be taken to Belles funeral home where funeral arrangements are incomplete.

DEATHS

CHESTER GAGE.

Military reburial for Pvt. Chester Gage, son of Mrs. Ella Amos, 315 Rock Island avenue, will be in Lima, Ia. cemetery, Friday.

An American Legion military escort will officiate at the grave. Funeral services will be conducted in the Lima, Ia., church Friday at 2 p. m.

Belles funeral home, Fayette, Ia., is in charge of arrangements.
