Sgt. Norman H. Filbert

 

FILBERT AWARDED SILVER STAR

Sgt. Norman H. Filbert, 646 Forest Drive, has been awarded the silver star for gallantry in action in German March 3.

With the 104th division of the 1st army seven months, the citation accompanying Sgt. Filbert’s award said “while his company was under intense enemy fire, he advanced across open, fire-swept terrain, reaching a besieged squad and setting up a radio in an exposed position, to direct artillery fire on the enemy holding up his company’s advance.”

Sgt. Filbert also wears the purple heart, combat infantryman’s badge and the bronze star.

Norman Henry Filbert, Jr. was born June 16, 1925 to Norman Henry (Sr.) and Margaret B. Ziegler Filbert. He died Apr. 8, 2004 and is buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, IA.
