Nodaway Soldier Is Wounded in Action

WASHINGTON, (AP)—The War Department announced Saturday the following 12 Iowans had been wounded in the Mediterranean:
Pfc. Earl W. Berry, Vinton;
Pvt. John F. Catania, Sioux City;
Pvt. Kenneth L. Conn, Centerville;
Pfc. Myron E. Dobbertin, Mason City;
Cpl. Bernard G. Flaugh, Archer;
Pvt. Kenneth D. Haner, Norwalk;
S. Sgt. Harley H. Holderness, Iowa City;
Cpl. Francis J. Lenan, Runnels;
Tech. 5/g Lawrence E. Northrup, Nodaway;
Cpl. Edgar C. Polking, Breda;
Pvt. Paul R. Swails, Wapello;
Pvt. Ewell D. Utt, Bloomfield.

IOWA SOLDIERS REPORTED MISSING
Washington (AP)—The War Department announced that the following Iowa soldiers were missing in action in the Mediterranean area:
Pvt. Donald R. Clark, Council Bluffs;
Pfc. Myron E. Dobbertin, Mason City;
Staff Sgt. Chester E. Fisher, Clinton;
Pfc. Frank J. Hempel, Davenport.

Pfc. Myron Dobbertin Reported Missing in Mediterranean Area

Pfc. Myron E. Dobbertin was among a list of Iowa soldiers announced by the War Department Thursday as missing in action in the Mediterranean area. Pfc. Dobbertin had been reported wounded in action in that area in January. He is the son of Mrs. Elsie Dobbertin, formerly of 403 1st N. W. He entered the service in December, 1942, and took training at Camp Roberts, Cal.

PFC. DOBBERTIN WAR PRISONER OF GERMANS
Pfc. Myron E. Dobbertin, son of Mrs. Elsie Dobbertin, Mason City, is interred by the German government, according to announcement made by the War Department at Washington, D.C., Wednesday. Pfc. Dobbertin had been reported on April 6 by the department as missing in action in the Mediterranean area, and previous to that, on Jan. 8, wounded in action in that theater of operations.

35 Cerro Gordo Men Killed in Action in 2 ½ Years of War

Memorial Day this year marks almost 2 ½ years since the United States entered World War II.  Of the more than 11 million men serving with the U.S. armed forces at home and overseas, it is estimated that Cerro Gordo county has contributed 4,100 men.
