Pfc. Ray Cederburg Returning To States

Sunday the Free Press received a news release from the Public Relations division of the Fifth Army in Italy which stated that 19 Iowans are returning home with the 168th “Rainbow” regiment of the Fifth Army’s “Red Bull” division in Italy. Listed as one of the 19 is Pfc. Ray Cederburg, of Corning. Cederburg is probably the last of the Adams county contingent who entered Federal service with the Villisca National Guard unit in 1941 to return home.

Pfc. Cederburg has been with the 168th since before it was federalized from a National Guard unit in February, 1941. He went overseas with the 34th Division, first American unit in this war to be shipped overseas in January, February and April, 1942. This unit followed the fighting from the original landing at Algiers throughout the Tunisian and Italian campaigns.
