Donald M. Bowers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon S. Bowers of Lime Springs, enlisted in the Army Air Corps at Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., on Jan. 29, 1942. He entered training as an aviation cadet Feb. 26, 1942, at Maxwell Field, Alabama, where he is now taking pre-flight training.

Previous to his appointment as cadet, he received a private pilot’s license and had 70 hours of flying time.

Don was born Sept. 4, 1916, at Lime Springs, Iowa. He was graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1933. He attended Iowa State Teachers College 1933-34. He was owner and operator of the Texaco station here from the fall of 1936 to May 1940. From Dec. 1940 to the time of his enlistment, he was an outside adjuster for the National Bond & Investment Co. of Gary, Ind. He attended the Gary Junior and Airport College at Gary, Ind.

His father is an ex-service man.

He married Irlene McMasters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. E. McMasters of Lime Springs on Sept. 30, 1936. They have a daughter, Sharon Lee, born Jan. 22, 1938.
