Lt. F. Roger Baumann

 

Cushing, Ia.—F. Roger Baumann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Baumann, of Cushing, was commissioned a lieutenant in the Army air corps and received silver navigator wings at June graduation at the Army air corps navigation school at Hondo, Tex.  He is a graduate of Cushing high school.  After spending a short leave in Cushing with is parents, Lieut. Baumann will report at Gowen field, Idaho.

Our Neighbors in the Service  

Cushing, Ia.—The air medal has been posthumously to Roger Baumann, first lieutenant, army air force, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Baumann of Cushing. The medal has been sent to the parents.  The citation accompanying the award stated that it was presented to Lt. Baumann for courage and devotion to duty, displayed on flight missions in the southwest Pacific area, during which hostile contact was probably and expected.  He was a navigator on a B-24 bomber and was killed on mission May 8, 1944.

Frederick Roger Baumann was born May 3, 1920 to Frederick W. and Edna Arp Baumann. He died May 8, 1944 and is buried in Cushing Cemetery, Cushing, IA.
