Robert Wayne Moon was born Aug. 20, 1919 to John Melvin and Mary C. Bustorff Moon. He died Aug. 9, 1942 and is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Philippines and in Correctionville Cemetery, Correctionville, IA.
Chief Petty Officer Moon served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Quincy (CA-39) and was MIA/FOD/KIA when that vessel was sunk in the Battle of Savo Island. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
