Sanford Odell Olson was born Nov. 13, 1923 to Charles Otto and Helma Amanda Johnson Olson. He died Jan. 21, 1945 and was buried at sea. He is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Petty Officer Olson served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ticonderoga (CV-14) and was KIA while in the service of his country. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
