James Robert Paley was born Sept. 6, 1921 to Walter E. and Edna C. Hertz Paley. He died Aug. 1966.

Lt. Paley served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 52nd and 30th Fighter Squadrons, 26th Fighter Command and 367th Fighter Squadron, 358th Fighter Group. He saw action in Germany serving as a Thunderbolt fighter and was shot down twice during his 24 months overseas duty. He was awarded the Air Medal (six times) and the European Theater of Operations ribbon and the Caribbean ribbon.
