Maj. Mulcahy served in World War II with the U.S. Army 17th Field Artillery Battalion, Seventh and Ninth Army fronts in France. He was awarded the Silver Star for action in Tunisia and the Purple Heart for wounds sustained when his vehicle struck a mine in France.

Richard Stanley “Dick" Munsen was born Dec. 1, 1921 to Serral and Belle Wiggin Munsen. He died Feb. 5, 2018 and is buried in Story City Cemetery, Story City, IA.

Lt. Munsen served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 97th Heavy Bombardment Group, flying 22 missions in his B-17 Flying Fortress before being shot down over Nazi occupied Yugoslavia. For 45 days he evaded capture by hiding in the rugged mountain terrain as told in his book “Bail Out Over the Balkans”. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart.

Col. Murdock served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 422nd Bomb Squadron, 305th Bombardment Group (H), 8th Air Force based in Chelveston Airdrome, England. He flew 35 missions as a navigator on a B-17 bomber, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and the EAME ribbon with three bronze stars. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force reserves.
